what happens if stitches are removed and the wound is still partially open?

i just got my stitches removed from my moms work and the wound is still open? they said its normal but it don't seem like it would heal properly or soon. i had glass go into my side. the doctor said no more than 7 days but it still open? just found out that the doctor was wrong i went to another one and i actually need stiches for 14 days and a couple more inside!!!!

1. It will leave a good scar. If it's open a lot you may need it stitched back up.
