What size knitting needles should I use?
I am knitting a scarf. I don't remember what size the yarn is, but it's like, normal I guess? I am making a scarf that goes row1- knit, row2- purl, row3- knit, row4- knit, and repeat. The pattern said to cast on 24 stitches (or whatever the things you cast on are called). I'm a beginner, if you can't tell. :) The pattern didn't specify a needle size.

- If you still have the wrapper from the yarn it will give you the recommended needle size. Most 'normal' worsted weight yarn will call for a size 8 needle, but a lot of scarf patterns will have you use a size 9 or 10 needle to keep the stitches a little loose and keep the scarf soft. Most important is how tight or how loose you knit - your tension or gauge. Nobody wants a scarf that is knit so tight that it could stand up by itself. Since you are only casting on 24 stitches, a size 9 needle will give you a decent sized narrow scarf which is popular right now - not pencil thin, but not real wide either.
