Do you have to pick apart embroidery floss to cross stitch?
Can't you just use it as it is?

- Usually you want your work to look even. Using more than two strands of floss makes your work look lumpy and bumpy.
- It is very rare that all six strands are used at the same time. The amount of strands used depends on the holes per inch of the fabric. The norm is 2 strands for 14 count upwards anything less would be three strands. The only time I can think you could use six strands would be if you substituted floss for wool on tapestry canvas.
- You only want to use 2 or 3 stands. If you hold up your floss and just twist the end a bit you can see which stands were wound next to which, if you pull them apart as they were wound up they come apart easily.
