- Why didn't you ask your doctor? They will go away as you heal. So it depends. The stitches desolve at different times for different people the faster you heal the faster they dissolve. They should be out by 3 weeks thought. -Connor
- about 1 to 2 weeks .
- - hey bud ! - anywhere between 7 to 10 days, give & take a few. - chow
- A week after my vasectomy, the stitches had still not dissolved. I had a follow-up visit with the urologist to check my sperm counts and he looked at the suture sites and discovered they were becoming infected, so he took them out without waiting for them to dissolve. If they are painful for you, go see the doctor and let him help you. I would not remove the stitches yourself.
- With some vasectomy techniques, there are no stitches. If you do have stitches for certain, and they are the dissolving type, they can take a couple of weeks (or longer). You should check with the surgeon. If you develop any longer term pain in the testicles, it sometimes responds to warm baths and medications like Motrin or Aleve, but you have to make sure the doctor says it is OK to use these. Any pain in the testicles that lasts longer than three months is less common, but occurs in up to 15% of men after vasectomy. I am an advocate for prominent placement of this info on the informed consent (instead of it being absent or in the fine print).
- Wow! I can't believe men are actually still having vasectomies with all the new research clearly showing it's far riskier than the urological community had previously warned. With the urology community finally recognizing that upwards of 15% suffer from chronic pain, it's a wonder that vasectomy is still a legal form of birth control. Best wishes with your decision.
- The stitches from my vasectomy disappeared in about two weeks. The stitches in my scrotum from my latest surgery in an effort to stop the months of vasectomy related pain are almost gone now (a little over a month). In all fairness there were many more of them. Again I must disagree with one of the posters here who states that PVPS is an "Urban Legend" I would have not had my scrotum cut into a second time (and potentially a third) if that were the case. In fact as much as he denies it's existence, in the few months I have been here I have yet to see him back up any of his assertions with links/facts/proof of any kind while the very ones he maligns offer copious facts and research (all verifiable). Who is to be believed ? It reminds me of a conversation I had with a law professor years ago he told me that he always taught his students When the law is on your side, argue the law When the facts are on your side, argue the facts When neither the law nor the facts are on your side, assassinate the character of the witness. I have observed no verifiable facts ( or laws) presented by this poster. Just character attacks (Which I was able to discredit in less that a minute through a physician rating database) PS If sufficient time has passed (over a week) I recommend a few warm baths they seemed to help mine disolve a little quicker. Hopefully that is the only source of your pain. Good luck
- Just leave your stiches alone. It is probubly the hair growing back that is making you uncomfortable and not the stiches. I iched like crazy for about two weeks after my surgery. No stiches were used on me. The claims about PVPS by fake doctors are just "Urban Legend". No legit doctor would hand out free medical advice on Y!A. Handing out fee advice on Y!A is not covered under malpractice insurance. Honestly do you think a real doctor would behave so risky? No he or she would not.
