what does the abbreviation ch2 mean in crochet patterns?

I am new to crocheting and I have no idea what the patterns mean. I understand that they are abbreviations for things like 'ch' means chain, but what does it mean to chain 2? I meant how do I do it. do I connect them? Dalbax2, no need for sarcasm. it's just rude. And thank you for iroc70.
