Easy but cool beginner crochet pattern?

Ok so I've forgone my knitting pride and decided to learn crochet as well. So far its proving to be a SERIOUS pain in my backside. Part of my problem is that I can't find any cool projects for beginners. Only like doilies and potholders and stuff. I'm sorry, but I'm not very intrigued by doilies. o_O Does anybody know any cool beginner crochet patterns?
