How soon after an episiotomy should the stitches come out?
I had a baby on the 16 (9 days ago) and when I wiped I saw a piece of my stitches on the toilet paper, and now there's a piece just hanging there.. Is that supposed to happen so soon? They're the kind that dissolve.

- They should dissolve on their own. Don't try to pull them out when their job is done they will go away. Just be cautious for signs of infection like odor, swelling, discharge. Keep area clean.
- yeah they start to disolve around 9 to 10 days dont remove it your self if you have to go to the doctors and they can maybe cut hanging peice of stitch off but DONT do it yourself
- Mine took about 6 weeks. I've heard they can dissolve faster though. I think it depends on your bodies immune system and how fast it works to break these down. As long as there is not more bleeding or pain I'd say this is normal. If you feel pain getting worse, or bleeding increases I'd get in to make sure you don't have an infection, or ripped the stitches. I'll include an ehow article I wrote about healing after a baby. A lot of this stuff you probably already know, but just in case you can use some of the info I'll put the link below. Congrats on your newborn and take care.
