Are they same in knitting: increasing & cast on in the middle of work?!?

knitting a glove I faced some problems... tanx for your help :)

  1. Usually, increasing is only for adding a stitch or two anywhere in the body of what you're knitting. Casting on is for adding a large number of stitches, usually at either end of the piece you're knitting. I just finished a sweater where I cast on at each end to make the sleeves. Increasing gradually adds stitches and shape--casting on adds a block of stitches all at one time. Hope this helps.

  3. Casting on is different from increasing. Increasing is knitting in the front and back of the st.
  4. When knitting gloves (or mittens), you need to increase for the thumb gusset. If the pattern doesn't specify an increase, use the KFB: http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/increases I don't know which pattern you're using, but you probably need to cast on a few stitches between each of the fingers. Some cast-ons cannot be done in the middle of a row. If the pattern doesn't specify, use the knit-on or backwards loop: http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on
