Do you use a slip knot?

- There are many ways of casting on but here is a link with videos to help.
- Yes you do need a slip knot if you are using it as your cast on. Here is a video to help you out. http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on Unless you have a reason for needing this particular cast-on (ie. you are knitting with wire) you might want to try one of the other cast-ons that give you a more even edge. I'm a fan of the long tail cast-on myself, but it's really all a matter of personal preference. Good luck with whatever you decide! Happy knitting.
- I don't. The reason I don't is that if I'm using the backward-loop cast-on, the edge should be knot free. I understand that some people *do* use the slip knot and then don't count the knot as one of the cast-on stitches so they can unravel it after they have knit the first row. Doing it that way would also leave a knot-free cast-on edge.
