Stitches

What does Benjamin Franklin's quote, "A stitch in time saves nine" mean?

  1. Do it now, because it means less work than if you do it later.
  2. The stitching in question would refer to sewing. If you found a small tear in a seam on a sleeve, you could fix it with one stitch if you act early. But if you wait too long, it may take nine stitches to fix it. Therefore, acting early to fix a problem beats waiting until it's a large problem.
  3. By stitching now, you prevent further damage to the material you stitch, therefore saving more stitching later. And nine KINDA rhymes with time.
  4. One stitch made now (repairing something) will in time save having to do nine later.)
  5. Doing a small job now will save you doing a larger job later
  6. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, is similar.
  7. repair now saves replacement or major overhaul later
  8. Another way of saying...Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today!
  9. Hm. If I had to guess I'd guess that if you slow down and do something correctly you'll get it done right the first time and not have any mistakes whereas if you hurry the finished poduct may stink.
  10. Darn! I'm too late again. This question was asked and answered 4 days ago.
