Stitches

How long would it take to heal long gash on the back from knife wound? With stitches? After they're removed?

I'm writing a book and need to know in detail what the wound care and healing process would be like both with stitches and after they are removed. Any advice would be great! What type of dressing would be applied after the stitches are removed? Would bleeding be normal hours after the removal? The character is a dancer...she would be able to resume all regular activities after the stitches are removed? Thank you!

1. length is not as important as depth. sutures remain in place 10 to 14 days, after which the wound should be healed
