If I start to knit , will I be betraying my crocheting ?

See, from what I've noticed, crochet is the underdog in the United States - it's considered to ugly when making clothes. In Mexico, crochet is mainly used for doilies and for things around the house, and baby clothes. So, up until now, I've been fully bent on only crocheting and trying to make beautiful things out of it, in order to prove the contrary that it's ugly (And I've succeeded), something of a "Suck it, knitting!" But today... I saw two books on knitting, with beautiful patterns! I do know how to knit and purl.... But if I start to knit, will I be betraying my crochet? I know it sounds stupid, but I feel that I'll be going over to the dark side :( What are your thoughts on this? I'm really torn up over this, as silly as it sounds.

  1. I'm an avid crocheter as well, and all I have to say is, no way! I think the more you can share art and beauty with the world, be it through knitting or crocheting, the better life will be. No one'll be mad at you for learning a new way of self expression. :)
  2. no, of course not! I knit and crochet, so what you can do is add some crochet to your knitted items. Add a crochet boarder or you can make some granny squares and add that in some way. I dont think that crochet makes ugly clothes, I think that there are certain styles that you can only make with crochet.
