What is the difference between embroidery floss and embroidery thread? (Quilting)?

I am making my first quilt and need to use "embroidery thread" to sew hearts onto background squares. Is embroidery floss the same thing, or do I need specifically embroidery thread? Thanks in advance!

2. I believe they're the same thing. I used to cross-stitch like crazy and in the instructions for projects, sometimes it would say embroidery floss and sometimes it would say embroidery thread. But it's been quite a while since I was into cross-stitching so it will be interesting to see what others have to say.
3. Yes they are the same thing. For some reason sometimes they call it floss other times thread.
4. For embroidery thread, they might be talking about rayon embroidery thread, which comes on the spool instead of loose like embroidery floss. If the instructions are for machine work, I would check out the thread.
