Can someone help me with these knitting instructions?
It says: FRONT-Cast on 100 stitches. Work 100 rows starting with a knit row. SHAPE ARMHOLES-Bind off 2 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. 3RD ROW-K3, SSK, k to last 5 sts, k2tog, k3 Repeat this 3rd row every RS row until 8 sts in total decreased each side. 84 sts remaining on needle. -Not part of the pattern, but part of the question: After I bound of the 2 sts and did the third row, I got confused. If I am only decreasing on one side, how I am supposed to evenly decrease 8 on each side. Can someone please explain this to me? It would have my full appreciation.

- You're actually decreasing at both sides of each knit row after the two bind-off rows. The first bind-off row is a knit row. Since you can't bind off at the *end* of a row, you then bind off at the beginning of the purl row--the 1-row imbalance will not be noticed. After that, you decrease on knit rows, both sides: Row 101 (Row 1 of shaping) Bind off 2 stitches. 98 sts left Row 102 (Row 2 of shaping) Bind off 2 stitches. 96 sts left Row 103 (Row 3 of shaping) Decrease 1 st 3 sts from each edge. The K3, SSK to begin the row creates a left-leaning border of stitches for an attractively shaped edge decrease, and the K2tog, K3 matches it on the other end of the row with a right-leaning border. 94 sts left Row 104 (Row 4 of shaping) Purl, probably--this is a stockinette stitch pattern, isn't it? 94 sts Row 105 (Row 5 of shaping) Repeat the 3rd shaping row--begin K3, SSK for the left-leaning border, and end K2tog, K3 for the corresponding right-leaning border. 92 sts left Row 106 (Row 6 of shaping) Purl. 92 sts. Row 107 (Row 7 of shaping) Repeat the 3rd shaping row--begin K3, SSK for the left-leaning border, and end K2tog, K3 for the corresponding right-leaning border. 90 sts left Row 108 (Row 8 of shaping) Purl. 90 sts. Row 109 (Row 9 of shaping) Repeat the 3rd shaping row--begin K3, SSK for the left-leaning border, and end K2tog, K3 for the corresponding right-leaning border. 88 sts left Row 110 (Row 10 of shaping) Purl. 88 sts. Row 111 (Row 11 of shaping) Repeat the 3rd shaping row--begin K3, SSK for the left-leaning border, and end K2tog, K3 for the corresponding right-leaning border. 86 sts left Row 112 (Row 12 of shaping) Purl. 86 sts. Row 113 (Row 13 of shaping) Repeat the 3rd shaping row--begin K3, SSK for the left-leaning border, and end K2tog, K3 for the corresponding right-leaning border. 84 sts left
- You are decreasing on both sides. When you get to the last 5 sts. You knit 2 together and knit last 3 sts. It looks like your only dec. 2 sts every 3rd row. Good luck
- I think you missed a direction there.. Did you see this part: Bind off 2 stitches at beginning of NEXT 2 ROWS? It's all very clear -- it says it right there. Decrease 2 at the right side... and then when you turn, decrease on the left side. How much more plain can that be? So you will mark the right side row (if you need to) and you will know that you only decrease on this side.... which will be every other row you are working. Follow the directions exactly as they are written, don't think, don't try to analyze, don't anticipate. Just do what is there, and nothing more. I've found that if I follow the directions just as it is written, there is no problem whatsoever. None. Do what it says... letter for letter... not a problem.
