How to keep my spayed cat from picking at her stitches?

It's been a little over 24 hours since she was spayed and I saw my cat nibbling and/or licking her stitches. How can I stop her from doing this, besides an e-collar, sprays or some other sort of collar?

  1. Leave her alone. I tried to stop my kitty from licking her stitches, she and her brother took each others cones off and wouldn't let me reattach it and she would hide from me. As long as she isn't bleeding she should be fine.My gal healed nicely.
  2. leave her be but don't touch her in that area or scare her she might go some where and rub her stitches and they might burst. or if your worried just tap her head gently when she starts picking at the stitches it will stop her then repeat the motion when ever she does it she will soon get that she should not pick the stitches i had to do it to my cat too and she turned out fine hope this helps
  3. My cat pulled hers out but it still managed to heal, but took longer if not using the special collar, just make sure are supervising her.
  4. This is a really difficult one as cats hate anything alien to their body and have a natural instinct to try and heal something themselves and they are not always the best judge. Some websites are good where u can log in and ask for veterinary advice. I am sorry i don't have e mail addresses for u as i cant find them on my computer. Try phoning the vets up if they are there all evening and have a skeleton staff of veterinary nurses on and see if they can help. Dont try and spray anything on unless u have proffessional advice firstly.
