How can I keep my dog from licking his stitches?

My husky just got neutered a few days ago but keeps licking his stitches. Even if he has a special collar on, he could still lick his stitches. What should I do?

1. Put Vicks around the wound. NOT on it.
2. E-collar
3. put one of those cones around his head.
4. if he had a proper fitting e-collar he would not be able to lick them. the end of the collar needs to extend past his nose.
5. Bob is 100% correct about the E collar sizing!!! I'd try putting Real Lemon lemon juice on the hair AROUND the wound (Vick's is not supposed to be used internally so I would NOT recommend your using it).
