Stitches

what are the best ways to avoid the stitch?

I have to run a time trial, most of the time I do not get stitch but I'm nervous I may eat the wrong thing or drink too much water or not enough because I am nervous about the test. What are some definite things to avoid? Is there anything I can eat/drink just minutes before the run that will stop me from cramping/stitch or getting a dry mouth?

  1. Make sure you are well hydrated before you run, that is the most important thing. Also eating bananas helps because of the potassium. A good way to prevent stitches is to do crunches before you run and stretch your abs after the crunches. If you still get a stitch when you run try exhaling and emptying your lungs 2-3 times and that should help.
