I am looking for a basic crochet lap afghan pattern that does not use double crochet.?

I would like to crochet lap afghans for the veterans at my local veterans hospital but am unable to find a simple crochet pattern

1. You can crochet an afghan with single crochet if you choose. You can also use a half double crochet stitch instead of a double crochet. You don't absolutely need a pattern for something like an afghan or a blanket. If you know how wide you are going to make it, simply chain that distance and then stitch rows on until it is long enough to suit you. You can also add simple stripes by changing colors of yarn every few rows. If you use a varigated yarn (yarn with different colors on one skien), you will get splotches of color at random that can form an appealing pattern without doing any more work. There are lots of videos and tutorials on how to do double crochet stitches if you'd like to learn. It really isn't any more complicated than single crochet once you learn to account for turning chains and keep track of a few extra steps in each stitch. I myself wanted to make a baby blanket recently. When I came up with this idea I was able to single crochet and work in spirals only. I couldn't find a pattern that I really liked or that wasn't too complicated. So, I spent about 20 minutes learning how to half-double crochet online and cranked out a baby blanket over the course of a few days. I added stripes to my blanket by switching colors and worked a border around it in a matching color. This blanket was the hit of the baby shower and was the only gift to actually get applause. Who says you need a pattern?

Hi, Well the previous answer explains everything so there not many thing to say :) but you can also do multiple small squares with single crochet and joint them together if you want, for me doing multiple small pieces if always easier than doing a big one, in the case of a blanket the piece will grow bigger and bigger and it will be hard to carry on like that...
