If I put metal knitting needles in water or put lotion on them will they rust or anything?
I have Susan Bates Silvalume knitting needles and I'm wondering if I put stuff like lotion or water on it will it rust or will it do damage to it?

- Well, it depends on the metal. I will assume that it's stainless steel, so no. Lotion won't do any damage, but water could. It depends on how long you plan to put them in for. Over 48 hours could cause damage.
- Silvalume needles are aluminum based, so water won't rust them like they would if they were steel and won't warp them like bamboo or wood needles. Lotion shouldn't hurt them, although it will transfer to your yarn. While its best not to keep them in water or oil them, it won't hurt them in the short run.
- No, I had to put my circular needles in boiling water to de-coil them. I have also put lotion on mine when it felt like the yarn wouldn't move. They are still the same color they were the day I bought them.
