Knitting: after casting on?
I am trying to learn how to knit and I have done the casting on on the left needle but I don't know what to do next? How do you start a new line? Any suggestions of good websites?

- website about.com/knitting takes you through the stages. Hope this helps
- With the needle carrying the stitches in your left hand and the 'empty' one un your right, put the right hand needle tip through the fromt of the first stitch, loop the wool round the right hand tip and slip the stitch off the left hand one. Repeat to the end of the row.
- put your right hand needle into the first stitch wrap wool round needle pull right hand needle through and let your stitch from the left hand needle drop off and that is your first stitch just do that all the way to the end of your stitches and that's how you knit a row.hope that helps you.
- The very best way is to have someone beside you to show you what to do. They can watch your movements (you think you are doing the same thing, but not really), and can show you how they do it. The next best is good videos. There are many on YouTube, some are good, some not so good, and some are quite incorrect. Use some skepticism there. The best site for showing knitting movements is on http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/learn-to-knit She does it clearly, and correctly, in both styles of knitting. You can also see if you can view the Lucy Neatby vidoe sets http://www.lucyneatby.com/books.html and she does have a couple videos on YouTube, but for more advanced techniques than beginning. Knitting is very simple... once you get the basics down. It is just pulling a loop of yarn through another loop. And you can only work with one stitch at at time, with two pointed sticks.
- go to a sewing shop and by a book on it or ask the assistant.. it is a much more reliable source than the internet
