what would I need to learn how to crochet?

I always wanted to learn how to crochet/knit and wondered if it was hard. What would one need to learn how to crochet a blanket (one that can be washed)? What about a beanie or mittens?

3. You need yarn, and a crochet hook of a size appropriate for the yarn. That is all... and of course, you need to know a couple stitches. A blanket is a huge project. Start small, like a dishcloth... or short neck scarf ... or a hat. A blanket is the same as anything else... just takes a whole lot longer to do. And can get very boring.... but keep at it.
