Stitches

How does one read/complete crochet directions?

I have a basic chain down, and I'm alright with single chains, etc, but it seems I just can't understand the instructions. When it says ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook.. does it mean I crochet 8 ch stitches, the go back through them, and make 6 of them into sc stitches? I may not entirely have the concept down. Personal help, and not just a link would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sara. :D That helped a lot

  1. Ok so you have a chain of 2 ch stitches. You know how to do the chain, so you know that you have just one loop on the hook and 2 seed-looking loops off the hook. Now, you will poke your hook into the 2nd space from the hook. This does not mean the one that you just did, but the one you did before that. You will do 6 single crochets into just one loop. This is kind of tricky for a beginner. It will look like a fan and will really stretch out the loop. Normally, you would do just one sc (single crochet) into any given chain loop. In this particular pattern, you do all 6 in just one loop. Refer to the Stitch n B*tch: Happy Hooker book. It's really helpful for beginners and advanced crocheters. Happy crafting!
  2. ch2= chain 2 then basically in the first chain (2nd chain from hook) do 6 single crochets (all in that one chain specified) (when given the instruction 2nd ch from hook or however many chains from the hook you start at your hook .....dont count the loop the hook is in...but then you count back from that and do however many chains they specify in that one chain!)
  3. Ok, so you know how to chain or ch! Now in the first chain you made, you will push the hook through and yarn over it and come back through so you have 2 loops on the hook, yarn over the end of the hook and come through those. That is a single crochet! Not a single chain. Written in patterns as "sc". so you are going to do 6 of those in that little chain space. It won't make a fan, and I think the next order will be to join with sl st? this is slip stitch, you will go through the first sc you made, yarn over the hook, pull back through so you have 2 loops, then go on through the first loop, the one closest to your hand. you may click my avatar and email me for further instructions. I know you will need them.
