Stitches

I need to crochet a blanket with a tight stitch (no lacey/holey stitches) what would be the best stitch to use?

I'm making lap blankets for vets and they need to be pretty solid - the less see through the better. If you have a stitch to recommend or pattern that would be very helpful! Thanks!

  1. you can do single crochet, that will make a nice warm lap blanket and its easy and simple.
  2. A dense stitch I have used for blankets is double crochets alternating with single crochets. Chain an even number of sts, sc in 3rd chain, dc in next ch, sc in next, across the chain; end sc in last chain loop, ch2, turn. On the next and succeeding rows, sc in the first dc, dc in the next sc, and so on across the row. The ch2 at the end of a row counts as a dc.
  3. single crochet would be the best bet.
  4. Double crochet all the way, baby! Or, you know, chain stitch the length you want, add 1 chain stitch, turn and double crochet to the end, 1 chain stitch, turn, etc.
  5. There's a stitch that i learned as Tunisian Stitch. It's also called Afghan Stitch. It uses a special long hook, each row is crocheted twice and the stitches are very dense. Here's a few links explaining the stitch: http://www.stitchdiva.com/custom.aspx?id=42 http://www.heritageshoppe.com/heritage/stitches/tunisian.html http://www.crochetcabana.com/specialty/tunisian.htm Here's a page filled with Tunisian crochet patterns: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/tunisian_crochet.php
