Crochet guage, I have correct stitches across but can't match row for guage. How do I compensate?
There are increases involved so I need to keep angle correct?

- Whenever I am trying a new pattern, I make a four inch by four inch test square; this allows for changes in yarn texture and thickness, my personal tendency to work "too tight" and shape of the hook itself. Switch hooks til you get the size you need to match the pattern. I save the test squares til I have enough to make a lap rug...sewn together, they make nice donations to a nursing home; an elderly person will thank you! Hugs, Gina C.
- Make sure you are following the specific instructions, too. I was ALWAYS off gauge when I started crocheting because I usually crocheted under only one loop, which makes your work longer, instead of crocheting under BOTH loops. Change your hook as necessary in order to achieve the gauge, too. What pattern are you using? If you are doing filet crochet, then sometimes your double crochets won't be long enough, and by adding a chain stitch to your double crochet, you will compensate for that: Yarn Over Hook, insert hook into stitch, Yarn Over and pull up a loop, MAKE A CHAIN STITCH, Yarn Over and close your stitch. You've now made a longer double crochet. You can also just pull your stitch a little more to make it longer. Hope this helps!
