My husband is a classically trained chef and doesn't have his own personal chef coats anymore. His have given out over the years and where he works now supplies him with company chef coats. For Christmas I wanted to get him a custom made Chef's Coat. He likes dark colors and hates white chef's coats. I was going to get him a black one that has his name embroidered on it. A classic chef's coat and have the sleeves altered a bit. Adding some cuffs to it but on the inside of the cuffs on one sleeve have embroidered - To my Black Diamond From his Gothic Princess ( our nicknames for each other ) and on the other - This is just the first step to us opening your own Restaurant. The embroidery on the cuffs would be on the inside of the cuff so it could only be seen when he unfolds the cuffs to read. He wears his shirts with the sleeves rolled up, so I am not worried about others seeing this part. Think this would make a good gift for him? Nah, he wouldn't get in trouble for wearing it. They wear black chef coats there, so there isn't a problem. A lot of chef's there wear their own. As long as they are black they don't have a problem with it. He isn't the Executive chef but he is in charge of all the catering menu items, special occasion recipes and has created 90% of the recipes that are used where he works. So he is a higher up on the culinary totem pole. The executive chef where he works is more of a Kitchen Manager, doesn't cook at all anymore and just does the paper work and the such to make sure the kitchen runs smooth.
