Stitches

Knitting instructions translation please?

Ok so i'm knitting a hat, I've started the band at the begining in rib, it's about 4cm/2in like the instructions say. Now i'm supposed to swith from 3 1/2 mm needles to 4mm (ok) and do exactly as follows: 1st row: Knit. 2nd row: Knit 1, * Purl1, Knit1B (b = knit into stitch bellow), rep from * to last two stitches, purl1, knit 1. First row, easy. But then the second row..? Does it mean i do a plain stitch, then a purl stitch, then make a stitch in plain stitch, then repeat over and over again? like make a stitch every two stitches? Because that sounds strange. Thanks Sorry wrong category, my mistake

  1. The stitch is a standard 'fisherman's rib' (or that is what we call it in Australia). When you do the Knit1B, instead of knitting into the stitch on the needle, you knit into the middle of the stitch below it and it is like a double thickness. As you pull the yarn through onto the right hand needle, you also take the stitch that was on the left hand needle. The end result is a lot thicker hat than what you would have gotten with a standard rib stitch. You do this every second stitch after the purl stitch Good Luck
