Can anyone give me instructions for embroidering letters onto knitting?
I don't want to knit them in, I want to add them after the fact. Thanks!

- I don't know how much you know about embroidery, so it is hard to say what method would be best for you. You could use a cross stitch or stem stitch, which would be just using the knitted piece the same way you would use any other fabric. Your other alternative would be to do a duplicate stitch, which would be similar to a chain stitch. Just make your chains right over the knitted stitches. check out: www.needlenthread.com/2006/06/basic-embroidery-stitches.html then do search for duplicate stitch to find indtructions
- I agree with the idea of duplicate stitching. I took a class several years ago and there were several patterns available at that time to also make designs on your sweaters. This web site will give you basic instructions. If you live in the US check with your local county extention office to see if they know of anyone around your area who does this kind of handwork,as one on one demonstrations are always helpful. Local knit and yarn stores or hobby stores may also have names of local craftswomen.http://www.serve.com/marbeth/duplicate_stitch.html
- Here are a couple of sites showing instructions on duplicate knitting that should help you: http://www.purlbee.com/duplicate-stitch/ http://getting-stitched-on-the-farm.blogspot.com/2006/10/duplicate-stitch-tutorial-for-years-i.html If you need a graph for the letters, let me know how big or small you want them - I think you can email me by clicking on my avatar. Good luck
