Stitches

What do these knitting instructions mean?

cast on 16 stitches (leave at least 1 foot tail) knit 4(6,6) rows What does the second one mean? I've never seen an instruction like that before.

  1. Leave a 1 foot tail??? I believe it means to leave a foot of extra yarn AFTER you have the casting on done. ANd the knit 4 (6, 6) rows means for the smallest size you knit four rows, and for the next two sizes up, you knit 6.
  2. Look at the instructions that come with this pattern. It mentions 3 different sizes. The first number refers to size A . If that is the size you are knitting, you disregard the instructions in the parentheses. If you are knitting size B, do the instruction in the beginning of the parentheses. If you are following size C, then you knit the 6 rows just as in size B. In other words, follow the instruction that pertains to the size sweater you are knitting.
  3. Leaving a 1 foot tail sometimes means that you will use it at the end to sew something up perhaps a seam to a hat. This usually refers to different sizes. Maybe a small, medium and large. If you are making the smallest size it is usually the first number and the other sizes are in parentheses. I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!
  4. If your making the first size then you want to knit 4 rows, if your making the second size then you would knit 6 rows.
