What's the best embroidery machine for someone just starting out?

I'm looking into getting an embroidery machine and I have NO idea of what to look for. I have never used one so I went to a local sewing center and the lady I talked to wanted to sale me a Janome machine for $1200! I don't want to pay that much if I can help it because I will not be using it every day of the week for any extended amount of time. I do know that I want a digitizing software but, are there any machines (with the software) for less than $600? Will they be dependable? What is the best name brand? Where do I start?!?!?!

Singer Sewing Machine are top of the line and just about do everything by themselves these days I checked them out last Christmas any Walmart have them I suggest you go there and price them they were under 600.00 but that was a year ago if nothing else you can put it in lay away and still get it in awhile good luck they also have after Christmas sales so If you can wait I suggest you wait but if not then singer is still my choice and walmart the place to get it reasonable good luck

3. Singer Futura Computerized Sewing & Embroidery Machine, CE-100 my wife was looking at this the other day she been looking for a decent priced quality embroidery machine she bought this at wal-mart
4. if u have joanns in ur neck of the woods, check out the Juscavaras, i'm sure u can get 1 for less than 600.
