what is the best and most affordable brand of embroidery thread?

I am just wondering what type of embroidery thread is the strongest, with good colors, and is not too expensive! Thanks for any help!

  1. Thread's strength and color come from the way that it is twisted. The leading textile companies are usually in eastern europe, so therfore it is reasonable to assume that the thread from that area is twisted with the best twisting machines in the world. I reccomend the ARC thread, it is from Turkey and it is very strong and also affordable.
  2. I use DMC embroidery floss which is reasonably priced and comes in a wide variety of colors. It's available online and at stores like JoAnne's & Michael's. It separates easily into individual strands if needed and doesn't fray as you work. As a bonus, most cross-stitch charts are coded for DMC but it also works well for regular embroidery. http://www.dmc-usa.com/
  3. dmc is the best and only about 30 cents a skein
  4. I think Polystar Thread is the best. You get 61 spools with a 1000 meters on each spool for only $99.99 (Retail $300). The most amazing thing about this thread is it's resistance to breakage, never again will you experience a breakage in thread in the middle of embroidering. They are also super shiny I have never had a problem with the polystar thread. Its high quality well-made thread. 5. For hand embroidery, DMC is the best. it's been around for about 150 years, so they're doing something right. For machine embroidery I like Sulky the best. It's a bit more expensive, but the colours, the shine, the coverage, and the luster of the stitches all make it a far better investment in the long run.
  6. Marothon Thread is a good thread that I have been using for about 4 years. It comes in Polyester and Rayon and the colors are vibrant and do not fade after many washings. Marathon.com and is in Garfield, NJ When you contact them either by phone or online, tell Susan that Gerry from Newton American Sewing Guild Club sent you. Enjoy!!!
  7. Contact Spectrum Thread for your thread needs...King cones are just $4.50 each when you purchase 12 or more. They stand up with the best of them...used it for the past 6 years and I would not use anything else. Give it a try I am certain you will love it...Good Luck http://www.spectrumthread.com
