If the nurse nicked a blood vessel when removing a stitch?
If the nurse nicked a blood vessel while she was removing a stitch and the area continues to bleed will it heal itself or should I call the doctor and go back to have it re-stitch it. I am on an antibotic to prevent infection. The stitches were removed on 11/18 and even today I have some bleeding.

- not a good sign.
- relax it'll jus make a blood clot, that can come loose later on and cause a stroke ;)
- Go back to your doctor - the bleeding should have stopped by now.
- If you still have bleeding 5 days after the stitches were removed, you have a problem and need to get to the doctor. It sounds like you have a clotting problem unless you keep picking at the area. It should clot in seconds and scab over in a day. If it isn't doing that your blood is too thin and they need to put you on a clotting agent. If you get a serious injury you will bleed to death if you are like that.
- It would be pretty difficult to damage a blood vessel when removing a stitch. However, something else may be going on, and you should have a health professional re-check the wound. I the vast majority of cases, there should not be any bleeding after the stitches are removed, especially from inside the wound. Sometime the wound scabs over, and those scabs get removed with the stitches, and that causes some minor bleeding, but there should not be any bleeding from inside the wound once the stitches are removed.
- Um, no not good. Like someone else said, hard to nick a blood vessel while removing a stitch. I have removed tons and bleeding never lasted more than a few minutes to my knowledge. See your MD for sure
