Stitches

What are these decorative knitting stitches called?

I've been looking for the term(s) of these decorative knitting stitches that you do after your knitting is done. I know you can do this with ribbon as ribbon embroidery but I want to do this type of work with yarn on finished wool gnomes I have knitted. Here is a link to show what I mean and what kinds of things I want to do: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_13&listing_id=17484522 I know there is the lazy daisy, running stitch, etc. but what are these called so I can google them and find instructions for how to do it. Does this make sense? Thanks!

  1. The flowers are French Knots. Heres a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul8XT72oA68&NR=1 The stems and leaves look like the green yarn was just laid in the design and then tacked with a darker green.
  2. The technique is yarn embroidery. There are a wealth of sites on how to do it. I'm pretty sure Interweave had an article on it just last month, so it should be on their site. Good luck!
