Stitches

what's the side effect of drinking water just before a jog/run?

My throat burns really easily (dry up and cough/choke) so i have to rehydrate myself more frequently than those around me. Before i go for my jog i always drink alot of water. I know it causes stitches but are there anymore differences as compared to drinking water 30 minutes before jogging?

  1. not that i know of... other than cramps/sloshing you should be okay!
  2. I believe you have some misinformation. You will not get "stitches" from hydrating before a run. Fluid will actually prevent you from getting "stitches". You should drink lots of fluid prior to and during any exercise. If you have a slight dryness in your mouth you are dehydrated. Don't be afraid to drink!
  3. It's not the water that gives you a stitch. If you get a stitch while going for a run, it's because you drank to fast. A stitch is a pocket of air trapped in you intestines. When you drink fast you swallow air as well as water. There is nothing wrong with drinking water before a run. Just take small sips and you will stop stitches as welll!
