Stitches

I have foot surgery on my left foot on October 6, 2008. In November the stitches was removed. ?

I went back today for a follow up appointment. The foot doctor notice that stitches were still in my two toes after all this time, it took him about 20min to removed the stitches after hard scapes grew on the toes. My one toe started bleeding. Is it possible that my two toes can become infected because of the doctor over looking this. I was wondering why my toes kept burning so bad in the month of December. Thanks.
