How can I keep my dog away from he's stitches if he can scratch them with his legs??What do I do when he opens
I've tried putting a sock on his foot he has a lamp-shade looking thing on him. And now it is open. I don't have money for more stitches in fact I owe the vet.

- you have to keep the plastic thing round his neck at allllllllll freaking times.... make it tight so it doesn't come offf all he is doing is going to hurt him self and then make you pay for more stiches... so make it tight but odn't do it so he can't breath...
- Maybe you could bandage up the stitched area.
- What I have done when my german shepherd had a tumor removed on his side, was to make a "tube top" out of Lycra (you know the stretchy material. Made it tight enough for it to stay on. That helped alot. But I would call the vet that did the stitching and ask him too.
- Can you clip his toenails?
- Put a little lamp shade thingy on his leg.
- Tie the two front legs to each other and the two back legs to each other. he will figure out how to walk that way in a few hours but will not be able to scratch.
- Try wrapping the injury with some of that self sticking ace wrap stuff. It's VERY hard for dogs to get off and it stays put. I'm not sure where his injury is at , but keep his e-collar(lampshade) on him so he doesn't bite the wrap off. You can also wrap his feet with the bandage too if you're still concerned. It's grippy on tile/wood floors so you don't have to worry about him slipping--just looking funny.
- well I dont know where his incision is, but you might try a t-shirt. If hes already opened it you need to get in touch with your vet, money or no money.
- My daughter works in a vet office...She says to bandage over the stitches or bandage the dogs feet so he cant itch. Bandaging over the stitches will keep the open area clean. She also says if it is a small area that has come open go buy some superglue and glue the area shut. Clean it with some peroxide first and let it dry, then glue it. ONLY IF IT IS A SMALL AREA and not TOO DEEP. If it is deep then let it heal from the inside out. She also says don't be afraid to take him back to the vet. They are used to this happening and won't consider it a big deal.
- buy an elizibethian collar ( a plastic cone collar) they are sold at petsmart then it cant scratch it open.
- Put doggie booties on his feet to keep his nails from scratching them, and bandage the stitches. He really needs to go to the vet, though.
- You need to stop the REASON for the scratching. Call your vet and ask if you can give your dog antihistimine to calm him down and to stop the itching. If the doctor approves, she can recommend the proper dose for your dog's weight.
- Have your vet put a plastic cone around his neck. That is what I hd to do for my dog when he broke his leg. Good luck i know how that feels!
