i cut my finger today got 2 stitches. how long do i have to keep the dressing on four?

i slip and fell on a candle holder and smashed it,cut my finger. wouldn't stop bleeding. it was a big cut went to the doctors and got 2 stitches he said it was a big and deep cut. the anaethesetic has worn off and is sore. have a bandaid on it and dressing. i noticed it was wet when i got home so took it off put on a new bandaid. stop bleeding just sore. how long should i keep the dressing on?

1. You mean they didn't tell you? I would keep it on for about 2 weeks, or longer if necessary. Keep checking it to see how it's healing. Use your judgment. If it looks or feels sore, don't expose it.
2. Change the band-aid every day. If you are doing dirty work keep it covered. Seepage is normal. It's the body's way of cleaning the wound. Keep it covered when out . But let it air when you can . That will promote faster healing.
3. just let it heal all of the way, ALL of the way, then when you completely sure its healed, you can carefully take them out with scissors ( i didn't have scissors, i used a buck knife) or you can just have a local doctor take them out, usually about a week and a half
