Need help with buying knitting machine?

Does a knitting machine have the ability to handle different kinds of yarns... thick and small, something like that?

  1. Some do and some don't. You really need to go read the instruction manuals that come with them. Then make up your mind which you want to get. I have a friend who has probably 10 different machines to do different things. I didn't ask if any of them would do all yarns, I was only interested in if any of them would handle hand spun yarns.
  2. The only 'cheap' one is the Ultimate Sweater Machine, which handles worsted to bulky weight yarns. It's about $150. The next one up is about $400 and it handles sport weight to worsted, I think. After that, there are the more expensive ones, and for those you have to buy the right machine to handle the yarn weight you want.
  3. Just like yarns that come in all sizes, knitting machines also come in different sizes, and can't handle all yarns. The needles need to be closer together with finer yarns, which would just get stuck with a thick yarn. You would choose the machine for the kind of yarns and the style of knitting you are going to do.
