A crochet motif calls for sz10 thread,and sz6 hook.i want to use sz20 instead. what size hook should be used?

- Size 20 is much finer, so you should use a smaller hook. The thing for you to do is make a swatch. Do a small sample of the pattern, and see if you like it. You can go up or down in size of hook until you find the one that works for you. You don't always go by the pattern!! That is what the designer used...your tension is not the same, and you will not use the same hook. You need to do a bit and see if you like the fabric you get. That is the final authority. Remember also that a finer yarn, smaller hook means the whole thing is going to be smaller too. Do you have to make adjustments to the pattern for a different size? Do a sample and find out.
