Would i be allowed to take an embroidery needle on an aircraft?
I am going on a long-haul flight and i was going to do a cross-stitch. The embroidery needle has a fairly blunt tip; if you poked yourself with it, it wouldn't hurt. Would it even be detected in the X-Ray machine? its so small and there are other bits of metal in my bag so would they spot it?

- I doubt it - effectively its a weapon, and with the high security after 9/11 then they would probably take it off you. Pop it in your suitcase just to be safe. For all they know, you could be nitting some bomb cable :)
- No, you are not allowed to take anything sharp into the cabin. It would have to be in your suitcase in the hold. The x-ray machine would most probably pick it up.
- Despite the blunt tip, it could still be used as a weapon, so no (you could still stab someone with it, not that you would). Pack it in your main luggage instead and bring a book in your hand luggage. They would spot it as they're very good at it! Safe flying!
- They may spot it.And no you can't on an aircraft with you.It my be blunt but it can be used to pout an eye out or with enough thrust it can be used to stab someone.
- Check with your airline; you definitely can't take embroidery scissors so you will need some other way to cut your silks. You can wear jewellery (brooches with needle-like fastenings) which are a similar size and length.
- You got 5 wrong answers. Sewing needles, knitting needles, needlepoint needles are allowed...and so are sharp scissors less than 4 " long. Many people on here have asked this question and many have answered from their own experience that the needles are fine. On the TSA site, anything not named as prohibited is allowed. Just put your embroidery stuff in your purse or carry-on...if you did get one of the few idiot TSA agents who make up their own rues just to feel like they have a tiny bit of power, so what? They would take your needle. I would put 2 or 3 in my purse. They are not prohibited.
- you don't say where you are flying from, I am guessing it's from the uk due to the fact that you don't refer to your hand bag as a "purse". I am not having a dig at the guy who gives you the tsa web site but if you are flying from the uk its 3cm not 4. needles such as knitting needles, sowing needles and cross-stitch needles should be ok. what I would suggest is when you get to the airport you are flying from before you check-in try and get to the security search area and double check. but DON'T take any other country's information and think it will work here it won't
