Stitches

What happens if I leave part of the stitches in my back after having something removed?

I partially removed them myself, but I think parts are still inside. I had 2 stitches, and right now it is about half an inch. What will happen if I just leave it?

1. one of several things: it will come out by itself, your body will absorb it, it could become infected...lots of possibilities.
2. Part of the reason you go back to the Dr. is so they can check it for infection- to make sure the wound is closed, etc. (and there usually isn't an additional charge) The stitch thread will eventually rot and fall out - as long as it doesn't get infected.
