Stitches

i had an episiotomy a month & a day ago, why am i stilll bleeding?

my stitches still hurt incredibly bad. especially when i urinate, it burns so bad that i'm near tears. from time to time after urinating, using the spray bottle, & blotting with toilet paper, i'll see blood from my stitches. for awhile it felt like they were healing just fine, i didnt have any pain or discomfort & all of a sudden its starting to hurt again. after my pregnancy i didnt "take it easy". i went back to cleaning the house, & acting normal. could that be why my stitches are still healing & painful?

  1. go to the obgyn
  2. go and buy some hypercal gel http://www.naturopharm.co.nz/products/TopicalProducts/Hypercal.asp i had so much pain after my episiotomy that i couldn't stand up with out intense pain - until i got some hypercal and it was like a miracle!
  3. that could be why its taking longer to heal.. i would go to your ob to make sure everything is ok and there is no infection or anything.. better safe.
  4. I would go back to doc and make sure you didn't rip again.
  5. it could definitely be that. i took it easy and it still took 6 weeks for my stitches to heal. every time i sneezed or coughed i would burst into tears because it hurt sooooo bad. my baby is now 6 months old, and it's still tender at times. i would say to try taking it a little easier and see if it helps, and do that for at least a week. if you notice an improvement then you should continue to take it easy, if it doesn't help then make an appt. with your doc to make sure it's not something more.
  6. Your stitches sound infected, and you might have a UTI to boot! You need to visit the doctor, and they will tell you what you need to do. It might be that you overdid it after your pregnancy, but it is probably also just a chance occurrence. (I mean, really, how many moms "take it easy" when they are taking care of the house and a newborn?). Good luck, get some medical attention, and pamper yourself for a day or 2.
  7. Aw! It's okay dear! My bleeding didn't stop for about 7 weeks after giving birth and having an episiotomy. I was worrying about the same things you were. Almost sounds like me speaking and asking the question. I bet you are getting so sick and tired of that water bottle. . . aren't you? The bleeding will stop. The stitches are the dissovable kind. From what I read when I was concerned. . . they are heavy duty stitches and it would take A LOT to get them to burst open. I was cleaning, etc. . . To be honest with you. The pain down there in my groin/bum region didn't go away for about 2 1/2 months. What actually helped me to feel better was to take a warm bath and to just soak in it. It helped the pain and it took my mind off of the stitches and the heavy bleeding.
