- Well for commercial machines there is different types. You can use rayon or polyester. I would recommend Polyester over the Rayon. Polyester thread is a stronger thread, you will have less thread breaks. It's also color fast, so when washing with bleach or even outside in the sun the thread will keep it's color longer. Brand of thread I would recommend Madeira. There is others such as Gunold stickma, Isacord,FuFu,Robison anton, etc. Good Luck Embroidery Technician
- I started with Robison-Anton thread and have stayed with it--regardless of whether or not it's polyester or metallic. I have only had 1 problem with a certain color and the dealer gladly exchanged the spool with an identical replacement (no problems since then). The selection of colors is GREAT; pricing is not bad, either. I hate to change brands midstream; I don't need surprises in the middle of a job. I would heartily recommend R/A thread to ANYONE, for ANY machine. (I use the Brother PR-600II unit.I used it on my Janome 10001 prior to purchasing the PR600II.)
- It can all be a little confusing when you first start to do machine embroidering, but one thing I have learned is that thread brands work different on each different machine. I cannot use Sulky on my Brother machine it constantly breaks and shreds, but another friend has no problem with it at all on her Brother. The best thing to do is to try a few different brands and see which works best for you. I use mainly Isacord and Coats & Clark. Your European Threads have a left twist and American threads have a right twist, this also sometimes makes a difference on your machine. The left twist threads don't ravel and shred as much as the right twist. To determine which threads are left or right twist hold the spool in your left hand and with your right hand roll the thread away from you. If it curls up it is a left twist, if the strands separate it is a right twist. Try both on your machine and see which works best, sometimes it depends on the density of the design you have chosen, and sometimes it makes no difference at all. About poly or rayon, rayon is shiny and is very good for items that will not be laundered a lot. Poly is not as shiny and is best for items that will be washed frequently or items that will be bleached, such as baby clothes, as it holds it color well and doesn't fuzz out. There are many good and excellent quality threads out there so just see what works best for your budget and your embroidery machine.
