Stitches

I recently decided to learn how to crochet but eveything seems too complicated...?

Can anyone out there help me to figure this out. I am very visual but none of the websites that I can find really show you how to to it. I need something easy preferably with how to do the stitches rather than just listing them. I need beginners help... Thanks...

  1. Everything is hard the first time you do it. I taught myself to crochet using the books you can buy at the craft stores. The pictures were very helpful. Go to Hobby Lobby or a craft store and buy a book you can set in front of you with pictures. It will be hard and awkward at first. Just be sure to crochet loose enough that you can get the hook through on the next pass. My biggest problem was crocheting too tight. Did you look on YouTube?
  2. this website shows step by step for the basic crochet. I hope it goes well. http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_cr.php3
  3. get a beginners book. it will show you every stitch you need to know in detail. when you have a pattern for your project you always have your beginners book to refer to for your stitches.
  4. I'm visual too, and I learned from my grandmother -- watching her hand helped me understand what I was supposed to do. Do you have a Seniors Center around you? The ladies there usually love to help people learn, and they're totally fun to be with!
  5. Here is a link for you. The public library has excellent books and pattern books and may even have tutorial DVD's and videos depending on where you live. You should call a small yarn shop to see if they have lessons. Don't give up!
  6. Klutz books are great for learning how to knit, or crochet. Get it at Micheal's with a discount coupon. They have detailed step by step directions with photos. My daugther used these to teach herself.
  7. I had the same problem Start with an easy project, like a scarf. There is a series of books called "Teach yourself Visually." Check your library and book store. Also look for vid and DVD. Taking a class, or having someone to help you is the best. Check out Micheal's for their class schedule.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/results?orig_query=crochet&search_query=how+to+crochet&orig_query_src=3 They have tutorial videos, and if one video doesn't show you in a way you can 'get it' then go on to the next one.
  9. Start with something simple like a scarf...something interesting that you will actually want to finish. This scarf http://www.joann.com/static/project/0608/PA00005.pdf is super cute and easy to make. Look at videos that will show you how to do the basic stitches: double crochet, single crochet, chain stitch. After you learn those three, you can pretty much do anything.
  10. Did you try Youtube.com??? believe it or not theres a lot how to clips to there. Actually I just went on there and type in crochet under the search and a few pop up... Good Luck
  11. I didn't have anyone to show me how either. I purchased a great CD called an interactive CD. I purchaased it at Joann Fabrics for $6.99 less 40%. Go to their website and print out a coupon for 40% off. The CD is great! The lady in it shows you, helps you and than helps you to check your work and than trouble shoot what happened if you are like me and need to do it over and over again to get it right. She tells you to be sure to ...blah, blah, blah and make sure you are holding, doing it like this and she shows you again. It is fabulous. My Dr. told me I had to find a way to relax since my blood pressure medicine could not get my blood pressure under control. We just kept going up and up. The Cd is called "Crochet Made Easy" and it is put out by Coats and Clark which is the maker of Red Heart Yarn. You will need a size G, H, J or K crochet hook. I find the metal hooks are easier to use than the plastic ones because the yarn slides better. You will also need at least one skein of yarn but preferebly a couple. Make sure that you are using a lighter color of yarn verses a navy, black or a dark color. The reason for this is it is so very much easier to see the stitches and in my case the mistakes that I made while trying to learn what I was doing. Red Heart is great yarn to start with as well as Caron. Just get plain old worsted weight yarn. It is not too expensive and if you make a tangled up mess, you are not out a bunch of money. You can progress to the more expensive yarns as you learn. While I am by no stretch of the imagination the greatest crocheter, I am however pretty good with the basics. Keep at it and you will get it. Good luck with your crocheting and be sure to remember to ask questions. There are so very many knowledgeable people on Yahoo Answers. We are all more than willing to help you. Good luck! PS. I no longer have to take any blood pressure medicine. Crocheting is the new medicine I use!
  12. I have easy patterns on my website http://www.bevscountrycottage.com This one is a definite favorite with so many: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bevsbooties2.html and for specific crochet instructions first go to this page http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/how-tos.html I hope this helps because crocheting is a wonderful hobby, and one that can help so many at home and around the world.
