Does it take long to learn to crochet?
I need some ideas for christmas gifts for my closest friends... I thought i would make them each a crocheted scarf with a little something else... i don't know how to crochet and was wondering if it took long to learn and how long it would take to crochet a scarf

- If you are determined you can learn to crochet in a day or so. Search on the Internet for sites that show you how to learn to crochet and you will be in business.
- it doesnt take long to learn at all takes about half an hour but if you want to learn all these fancy patterns give it a few more hours a simple scarf should take no more than two hours if youre seriously working on it
- It only took me a couple hours to learn and if you crochet a little bit a day then you'll get better and your scarf will get done. You could make the scarf in a day if you spent all that time on it. Some people go fast when they crochet and others go slow. Take you time on it, so that it looks nice!
- It doesn't take long. I self taught myself to crochet. The hardest thing is learning how to hold the yarn and needle right. Start on a basic single crochet first and make many many rows. By doing that you should grasp the needle and yarn holding thing. Once you learn that basic stitch then go on to more. First learn to do the " chain ", then go to the " single crochet " then the ' Double ". You can make an entire scarf with the chain and single crochet stitch alone. It goes very quickly too so, you should be done way before Xmas.
- learning to crochet is fairly easy and scarves are one of the easiest things to make - however learning to read a pattern and understand all the abbreviations etc required to make anything much more than a scarf may take you quite a while longer I have been crocheting for over 45 years and have made almost anything that can be crocheted yet I still manage to find some new stitch formation or technique that I have never come across before on the internet so don't expect to learn it all in a short time span and be prepared for it to be a learning curve for many years
