Stitches

If you were in charge, what would be the punishment for this crime?

At the shelter where I'm a volunteer, an animal control officer brought in a young male Boxer (pure bred), with some horrendous injuries. Not only was he very malnourished, but someone had poured some sort of acid or drain cleaner down his back (about 12" along his spine). The acid had gotten on top of his head and on his hind legs, and wherever it touched, it burned the flesh off. The vets had to cut away the ruined skin and staple/stitch him back up. He'll always have the scars, but he's a fantastic dog, even after this horrible abuse. He's so friendly and playful, and he simply LOVES being with people. If you were in charge, what would you suggest be done to the person who hurt this dog? Just a side note... animal cruelty is now a felony in my state, and carries a sentence of 3-5 years per count. They never caught the person who injured this dog, by the way. I just think there's a special corner of Hell reserved for people who abuse animals.

  1. I can't say, for fear of being banned from Y!A.
  2. prison or caning. People who are cruel to animals should be beaten badly and have visible scars from it. they should have no rights
  3. Arrest them! For at least a couple of years, Also band them from owning another pet.!
  4. I don't think there IS a punishment horrible enough to deal with this.
  5. I would want him to have to go through the same things that dog went though. Like they say...an eye for an eye! Definately a "star" question!
  6. The exact same thing that was done to the dog and let's throw in castration for good measure.
  7. an eye for an eye.
  8. KILL HIM! srry that was over the top i just love animals and dont see how people can hurt them. If i was in charge i would fine him some money and proably atleast a 15 year sentance in jail but that proably wont happen i just love animals to much lol!
  9. Given the maximum allowable penalty, which depending on the state can be several years in prison and some hefty fines.
  10. I know that it is not possible but the same treatment should be administered to the person or persons who committed this cruelty.
  11. A prison term and not for just a few months. It's been shown that people that torture and kill pets often go on to worse crimes against other people. The individual or individuals should serve time in prison, definitely and should receive psychiatric counseling.
  12. at this very minute im too angry to answer.il get back to ya.
  13. I think that to teach these ppl a lesson and to anyone thinking of doing something like this they should have to go threw everything that this poor dog did. then maybe ppl will learn.
  14. Depends... if that dog chewed half of some kid's face off, and the drain cleaner was done out of anger.. then fine, nothing should be done. If it was done out of cruelty and spite, then whoever did it is a bit messed up and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near animals. Edit: This answer was obviously not what you wanted to hear to boost your lynch-mob mentalities - but that's the way it is.
  15. I would have someone inflict the exact same injuries on the abuser.
  16. Prosecute, but unfortunately, there aren't many laws that protect animals from this cruelty. They usually get a slap on the wrist. I would do much more than a slap on the wrist. Thats why I am not in charge.......God bless the person who rescues this dog. I firmly believe animals know when they are rescued, and never forget the kindness shown to them.
  17. That sounds exactly like the case that was in our town. Someone tied up a male boxer to the humane society door and left him there. That poor dog looked awful! But here, his eyes were swollen shut from being beaten so badly. I feel soo bad. I think if the person that did it would get caught, he should get the exact same think done to him. He should be starved and have acid poured on him and have his skin cut off too.
  18. Well first when I know FOR SHURE who it was who done that to him, I would take some sort of acid and poor it ALL OVER them. But the thing is.. I wouldn't cut off the skin and fix them, I'd leave them to suffer. -DO THE HUMAN WHATEVER THEY DID TO ANIMALS. STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!
  19. Poor dog, how horrible. Unfortunately those who did it if there caught will only get a fine and a night in jail, but the dog has to live for the rest of his life with problems. I think people who do things like this deserve some serious jail time, show them how being abused is like. The should never be allowed to own another animal again and if they are caught with one they should be taken back to jail, also this should be on there record permanently and count since human abuse is never far behind. People who abuse animals are losers. I hope he gets a great home.
  20. First, I would have them take a mental exam to see if they were mentally ill. Then I would have them either committed to a mental institution or locked up in prison until the scars on the dog went away. In other words, forever. Most serial killers started out hurting then killing animals before going on to people. This person does not need to be loose in society.
  21. the most effective punishment would be public display of the person to society such as a news channel and etc. They will most likely be shamed enough to never repeat the incident as well as throw them in jail for a month, make them pay the vet bill, and once the pet has a new home, the old owner should have to contribute a monthly $$ amount to its care. Other society members will probably shun this person due to how many people love animals and hate people who abuse them. I would also like to beat them but that would be wrong of me and 2 wrongs don't make a right and they might blame the beating on the animal and attempt to harm it more.
  22. Primetime televised public flogging. That'll stop 'em. And the networks would love it.
  23. People that abuse animals are the worst kinds of people. I would suggest pouring acid down his back and let him see how it feels.
  24. permanently attach his genitals to a burning building, hand him a bottle of acid, walk away.
  25. I would say between 10-15 years. It also depends on how they found the dog. If they found the dog chained up with no food, water, or shelter that would be at least one count. No food or water would be another count. Acid poured down his back is probably one or two counts. I feel really sorry for that dog. I hope that y'all find the owners of that dog.
  26. I can't say what I'd like to because I'd getted baned, but he should get done what he did to the dog for starters. Then he should get every bone in his body broken by being cut from a rope hanging him by his neck 50 stories above the ground right before the hanging kills him. Then he should be force fed antifreeze and rat poison. I agree completely that there's a "special place" for animal abusers and it's not a good place to be! Animals have always been the best part of my life, especially dogs, and how someone could have the nerve to do this to an innocent animal is beyond me!
  27. public flogging, followed by being hung, drawn, quartered
  28. i would love to be the one to malnourish that person and be the one holding the gallon of acid down his back and see how he likes it... iam TOTALLY against animal abuse and i am glad that they go to prison for it.. dog spelt backwards is GOD and read the last couple sentances of this paragraph even after all the bad stuff that dog went through it still has the heart to give hope to people and still be loving even though it was people that caused him that hurt.
  29. I'd be very tempted to say give him a dose of the same treatment, but it probably wouldn't be allowed. Can you imagine the outcry about human rights ??? Instead, I would have a mandatory period - 18 months or two years where he would have to help every single day with victims of abuse - supervised of course, such as in a burns unit or other injuries unit. Or if there is such a place as an animal trauma unit, so much the better. Make it compulsory for him to become aware of the suffering and to be part of the healing process. I think the trouble with this sort of crime is that the perpetrators leave others to deal with the aftermath. I would make them face it every day, rub their noses in it. Or what about sending them to Iraq where they would live every day in fear of being hurt themselves??
  30. hell indeed and atleast five years and never to own a pet again my state is stiff to go joe
  31. God is not going send nobody to hell for a animal,a dog no less.Parents don't get 2-5 for hurting and killing their babies and children, but people can get it for a animal. The world really is going to the dogs,no wonder it's in the shape it's in?
  32. Pour acid or oil, something flammable on him. Light a match. Toss it on him.
  33. Absolutely! Animal cruelty should be a felony on a federal level!!!!! And it should carry a term of 10 years in my opinion! And lets slap a 500,000 dollar fine per count on top of that! That'd really keep idiots at bay! I think if they had caught the person, he would have gone to jail. No matter what. EDIT: In fact put me on that jury, I'll make sure he fries.
  34. I would make him serve the rest of his life in jail, only allowed to eat peas and mushrooms. (Drinking only grapejuice.) I would also fine him $50,000. Whoever hurt an animal deserves this treatment. Who would do such an evil thing to a dog? By the way, I really agree with you.
  35. I think the cruel monster who did that should have the exact same thing done to him. And let the person, suffer the starvation and lack of medical care after he was chemically burned. Anyone who could do that is a monster and deserves to suffer. I almost became a "animal cop" but I was afraid I would seriously hurt anyone who hurt an animal. That stuff makes me so angry.
  36. I have owned several "second hand" dogs and I find the best punishment is a bit of reverse psychology. Find a home for the dog (or cat or whatever it is) where they will be truly appreciated. My 6yo Alaskan Malamute has me as her fourth owner. She has gone from being abused to being a multi working titled and race winning dog. I think she saved me not the other way around! Unfortunately this world is full of people that find some form of "entertainment" from doing this sort of thing to animals or children - anything or anyone that cant truly defend itself. There are so many things that would form a great punishment, but probably the best punishment is the person themselves because one day something will happen to them. Thats karma. Good on you for doing your great work and caring so much.
  37. Let them experience what that poor dog did.
  38. We take in abused animals and try to bring them back to where they should be, both physically and mentally. And I refuse to adopt out the extreme cases because you never truly know how a new owner is going to be with an animal in their own home alone. I am not willing to sacrifice the animal's new found happiness and health. I plead the fifth!!!! As you can tell by the sn I'm from Texas, and we're a little bit meaner to people like that down here!!!!!
