underground hip hop club nyc?

I am going up to nyc in november and would really like to find a laid back underground hip hop club. i plan on checking out the knitting factory...anyone have any suggestions? I am staying in manhattan but may be open to go over the bridge to brooklyn i may be solo(going for work) let me know...thanks!
