What do u want to know about making money from knitting at home?

For many years I have been knitting caps for cancer patients who loose their hair from treatment. I get lots of requests from these people to help them start up knitting at home to make some extra money for their treatment, take their minds off their problems or have something to do when having treatment. So I'm asking for your best tips, your own experiences, what are the things you'd like to know about starting up a knitting business or any other advice you can offer. Thanks in advance.

  1. What?
  2. Any kind of knitting is basically competing with third-world wages, and it's going to be tough to make any money at it. For several years, my aunt knitted dog sweaters, and sold them to pet shops. (She trained her poodle to "model" the sweaters, it was real cute.) But even that market is over-crowded, now. I knew one person caring for her mother who had alzheimers, but loved to knit still. She would sit and knit squares all day long. My friend would unravel the pieces at night, and the next day, her mom would knit them back together again. The pieces never became anything, she didn't have that kind of skill left. But she loved to knit squares, apparently. I would suggest you ask for donations of yarn, and get patients to knit items for donation. I'm sure you can keep people busy, but I don't know that you'll make a profit doing this.
