  1. nine stitches is correct ;D
  2. It means address a problem at the start before it escalates into something bigger.
  3. A little timely effort will prevent more work later
  4. It means if you get to the root of a problem quick it saves you more work in the future... whats not to understand?
  5. I think it means if you take the time to mend it now when it only needs a little work, it'll save you needing to do lots of work if it gets worse later, so if a hem (for example) is hanging down a little at first, fixing it sooner can save it becoming worse and needing more stitches. Clear as mud, eh?
  6. yeah nine stitches! it means if you do something properly the first time, you wont have to go back and waste more time fixing your sloppy job. Not really sure of the stitch part though!
  7. Repairing a loose stitch in your cloth when you have spare time, will save having to take time, when you cant afford it, because your loose stitch has opened a seam and you need nine stitches to mend it again another saying which mean something similar is 'make hay, while the sun shines'
  8. 9 stitches. It means if you have a tiny hole in your shirt that one stitch can fix, fix it now. If you wait, the hole will get bigger and you'll need to use 9 stitches to fix it. So -- fix small problems today, because tomorrow the problem is going to be a whole lot bigger and take a lot more to fix. Got a lot of time on your hands, huh? = )
