How do you crochet a spiral so that I can make me a hat?

I learned to crochet not to long ago, and I'm hooked. Now I want to make a hat, but I need to know how to do that special way to make that bowl shape instead of flat. Thanks! But I don't know how to make a flat circle! THAT'S THE PROBLEM!

  2. If you can crochet a flat circle, you can make a hat as you're already halfway there! =) It sounds as though you already know how to do the flat part (working two stitches in one to increase the number of stitches). To curve the fabric to make the hat shape simply work around without making any increases. Here's a link to a cute little hat to give you the idea: http://putasockinit.wordpress.com/patterns/red-hat-embellishment/
  3. here is a free pattern that can help you make the hat. dont worry its very easy just HAT With A, chain 2. Round 1: Work 6 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, place marker for beginning of round – 6 stitches. Round 2: (Single crochet in next stitch, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 3 times – 9 stitches. Round 3: (Single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 3 times – 12 stitches. Round 4: (Single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times – 16 stitches. Round 5: (Single crochet in each of next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times – 20 stitches. Round 6: (Single crochet in each of next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times – 24 stitches. Repeat Round 6, working one more single crochet between increases on each round, until there are 36 (40, 44) stitches. Work 1 round even. Next Round: (Single crochet in each of next 8 (9, 10) stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 40 (44, 48) stitches. Work 1 (2, 2) rounds even. Next Round: (Single crochet in each of next 9 (10, 11) stitches, 2 single crochet in next stitch) 4 times - 44 (48, 52) stitches. Work 3 (4, 4) rounds even. Fasten off email me if you have any questions about this pattern.
  4. t's not a spiral. You want an almost flat circle. You make increases on your rounds to get that shape. There are hundreds of patterns available on the net... google is your friend. Before you attempt a hat, I think you should make some flat circles, and other things to learn some basic stitches. It's easy to do -- when you know how. But you have to learn a few basic things first before you can do shapes.
