How can I prevent an overlap in colours when switching colours while knitting stripes?

Okay. So I'm knitting a scarf, and I realized that every time I switch colours, you can see a little overlap on the wrong side of the scarf. I know it's on the wrong side, so it doesn't really matter, but I was wondering if there's any way to prevent this. Thanks a bunch!

  1. I'm not sure if you are saying it is loose at the ends where you change colors or it is where you are carrying the yarn colors up the side. This video shows how to change colors and carry the yarn up the side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjMcVXXf9ss This video shows how to change colors and weave the ends in as you go: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-kscakqPUpvc/how_to_add_color_knitting_video/ This site shows a great method of weaving ends in as you go in and is very detailed: http://sockpr0n.blogspot.com/2006/10/how-to-weave-in-ends-while-knitting.html You will always see an overlap of colors on any purl stitch as that is the way the stitches are formed and you can see this in the videos above. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  2. What you mean is that you can see the little blips of the other colour on the back side of the row. That's just how it is. If you are knitting in garter stitch, you are going to see it on both sides, depending when you change the colours, and on stocking stitch, you are going to see it on the purl side, but not on the knit side. There isn't any way to get around that. If you don't like the back side, you can cover it with a piece of cloth, or knit a flat piece twice the width and fold it in half. That's just the way knitting is. There isn't any way around it. You can try to incorporate it into your design, so it appears that it HAS to be that way, but mostly, you will just have to accept it as it is.
